When using Elementor, this plugin makes a whole column containing elements work as a clickable link. This is something I hope Elementor will add to their own plugin in the future. It allows for more customization and a better user experience. After you install the plugin there will be a spot to insert a URL on the layout block editor.
This plugin works using JavaScript vs an <a> element. If you are having some compatibility issues, try deactivating this plugin first. It would also still be beneficial to include the link on one of the elements in the column to help your SEO.
